School resumes tomorrow, 12/2/24, at 8:30 a.m. We can't wait to see you all!

Happy Thanksgiving from Elk Hills School District! We are grateful for each and everyone of you!

Hi all! I’m Ms. Vlahos (also known as Ms. V!) I am the sixth grade teacher. This is my third year teaching, as well as my third year at Elk Hills. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from CSUB, as well as my Master’s in Elementary Education from GCU. I am currently very close to finishing my Teaching Credential!
I truly enjoy working at Elk Hills because of the strong sense of family that comes from being part of a small school in a tight-knit community. The close relationships with students, families, and colleagues, create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and connected. It’s rewarding to see the positive impact we can make together!
I have an ornery Golden Retriever named Wallen who keeps me on my toes! I love spending time with family (Auntie is my favorite title), with friends, at the beach, watching sports, cooking, or watching/listening to true crime documentaries!
My hope for this school year is to inspire my students to love learning and face challenges with confidence. I do my best to create a classroom where everyone feels loved and safe to share their thoughts and work together. I always tell my kiddos that at the end of the day, if you are kind human beings, I did my job as a teacher. This year, I’m excited to incorporate more hands-on projects that connect what we learn to the real world. I truly believe that together, we can make this a memorable and impactful year!

Campus is closed for Thanksgiving break from 11/25/24-11/29/24. School resumes on Monday 12/2/24 at 8:30 a.m. We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hi Elk Hills Families,
There will not be after school care today Friday, November 22, 2024. Please note that students are dismissed at 1:30pm today as well! We hope you have a great Thanksgiving Holiday!

Elk Hills School District's Parent-Teacher Organization is pleased to annouce that they will be hosting the Festival of Trees fundraiser once again this year! Fliers and tickets have been handed out to teachers to send home so please be on the lookout for those papers in your child's backpack! Each classroom, the literacy team, the cafeteria crew, and the resource room squad will be participating this year. Tickets are $1 each and the student who sells the most tickets by December 11th, 2024 will win a $50 gift card! Drawing for the winner of each tree will take place after the Christmas program on December 12th, 2024. You do not need to be present to win, so be sure to fill out all necessary information before turning in your ticket! Please see the flier for tree themes and additional information.
(Due to a printing mistake each student received 16 tickets instead of 20, but you can get more from Mrs. Shara in the office or Mrs. Cassandra in room 11!)
More information regarding the Christmas program will be out soon!

Reminder: Today is regular dismissal at 3:00pm, and Friday is a minimum day dismissal at 1:30pm. The 6th-8th grade students are heading to UC Santa Barbara today for a campus tour and will return to campus by 5:00pm. Please do not forget to pick your students up at the school!

Mrs. Cindy has been with Elk Hills for four years, first as a bus driver, and now as a bus driver and an instructional intervention aide. Her favorite thing about her job as an intervention aide is watching the students light up with joy when they master a new skill during Walk to Learn! She really enjoys working at Elk Hills because of the sense of family she gets from working with, in her words, the amazing and caring staff. Before coming to work here at Elk Hills, Mrs. Cindy spent 21 years working at Taft Correctional Institution- three years as a correctional officer and the next 18 as a correctional counselor. She loves her two dogs named Bonnie and Clyde, taking vacations with her entire family, watching ALL the Marvel movies, and playing Clash Royale.

Don't fotget to join us on tomorrow, November 15th, from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Kaiser Permanente Sports Village Soccer Complex for the Small Schools Sports League Co-Ed Soccer Tournament! Snack bar provided. GO ELKS!

Big Smiles is a mobile dentist that comes to school campuses and provides dental services, these services include xrays, cleaning, sealants, and small cavity fillings. Having dental work done in a safe, comfortable environment takes away a lot of the stress children can have about dentists. Elk Hills has been working with Big Smiles for three years and they have provided many students with excellent dental care.

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. J
Mrs. J has been working for Elk Hills since the 22-23 school year. We first met Mrs. J at our Kicks for Kids event during the 21-22 Trunk or Treat, she enjoyed being at Elk Hills so much that she started coming here for other events with the Kicks for Kids crew and eventually began working here as a kindergarten aide. In the 23-24 school year she moved into the position of instructional intervention aide with the literacy intervention team. Mrs. J loves helping the community and often does outreach for her church. She has three sons and has been married to her husband for over 20 years. She is currently working through a rigorous literacy program aimed to help the students she works with become the best readers they can be. Mrs. J loves spending time with her family and napping when she is not at work.

We at Elk Hills would like to thank all the veterans for thier service. We'd like to give a special shoutout to the veterans in our Elk Hills family: Mr. Weyant and Mr. Medina! Your service to this country, and continued service to this community is greatly appreciated!
