Beatris Espinoza Negrete
Intervention Aide
I have worked at Elk Hills since 2011
I have an Associates in Science degree for Los Angeles Trade Technical, and a certificate in Child Development
I enjoy working at Elk Hills because it’s like a family here. Everyone knows each other and everyone goes out of their way to help each other. It doesn’t feel like work when you enjoy doing what you do. The children make me happy and to see those big smiles on their faces when they finally understand their work makes it worth it.
My hobbies are beading, crochet, sewing and gardening
God blessed me with four beautiful children Ivory, Isabel, Irma, and Alexander. Isabel, Irma and Alexander attended and graduated from Elk Hills. Isabel is now the 1st grade teacher.
My hopes for this school year is that the students can learn, grow, have lots of fun and become leaders in the future.

As the community engagement coordinator, part of my job is analyzing attendance data daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly to watch for patterns of attendance highs and lows throughout the entire school, in each classroom, and for each student. This data helps us formulate strategies on how to engage students and educate families regarding attendance. Over the last few weeks I have noticed a significant decline in attendance on a daily basis- I know as the days get colder it gets harder to get out of that warm comfy bed, and I also know that more illnesses tend to get spread, however: it is important that as we wind down the year and come upon the mid-way point of the school year that students are here as much as possible given they are not ill. There are several assessments happening that will help teachers and intervention teams gather their own data on what to re-teach or begin teaching once we return from winter break. It is also important for students not to miss practices for our upcoming Cowboy Christmas Program or the opportunity participate in several of the fun activities planned over the next eight school days. That's right, only eight school days left until winter break! So let's work together to get students to school everyday! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me regarding your student's attendance, or with general attendance questions- I am happy to help!

Don't forget: there is a PTO meeting today in the cafeteria at 3 p.m.! We hope to see you there!

Staff Spotlight: Mr. Medina, 7th grade teacher
My name is Arturo Medina (aka Mr. Medina), I am the 7th grade teacher, and this is my first year at Elk Hills. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from Cal State University Bakersfield. I came from the largest non-unified school district in the state, BCSD, so working at Elk Hills has been an adjustment. I really enjoy the sense of family I get from working at a small school in a small community. I have been married to my amazing wife, Dr. Andrea Medina, for 25 years. We have two sons, Joaquin, 20, and Alejandro, 18. I also have a beautiful long hair chocolate labrador retriever named Ruby. In my time away from work I enjoy surfing and snowboarding with my two sons, reading, and traveling with my family. I was born and raised in north San Diego County, but moved to Bakersfield to attend university. I have had the good fortune to travel to 16 different countries and live in Spain for three years. My hope is that during the course of the school year I am able to instill the love of learning in my students.

Fliers and tickets have been handed out to teachers to send home so please be on the lookout for those papers in your child's backpack! Each classroom, the literacy team, the cafeteria crew, and the resource room squad will be participating this year. Tickets are $1 each and the student who sells the most tickets by December 11th, 2024 will win a $50 gift card! Drawing for the winner of each tree will take place after the Christmas program on December 12th, 2024. You do not need to be present to win, so be sure to fill out all necessary information before turning in your ticket! Please see the flier for tree themes and additional information.
(Due to a printing mistake each student received 16 tickets instead of 20, but you can get more from Mrs. Shara in the office or Mrs. Cassandra in room 11!)
More information regarding the Christmas program will be out soon!

Community Bingo Night is this Thursday from 5:00-6:30PM in the cafeteria. Join us for a FREE fun-filled evening!

Parents/Guardians;
Due to the recent fog, it is time to review the Elk Hills School District fog delay procedures. There are times when Elk Hills School will delay opening two hours because of the dense fog conditions. Please be advised that school supervision will also be delayed by (2) hours, so do not send students to school until supervision is available on declared fog delay days. Supervision at the school will begin at 9:30am. Please note, there will be not be before school care on fog delay days.
The decision to delay school is usually made before 6:45am in order to get the information to the media in a timely manner. When the roads are being checked between 5:30am and 6:30am, visibility may be acceptable; however, at 7:00am, when busses are on the road, conditions may have worsened.
Since we cannot predict what will happen with the foggy conditions, we have to make the best decision we can based on the road conditions before the busses begin their routes at 7:00am. We make the decision on actual observations in our District.
Please be aware that when a fog delay is called, it is done in the following manner:
Visibility is checked throughout the district between 5:30am - 6:30am by the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT).
Prior to 6:30am the Director of MOT will notify the district superintendent who will then notify the Kern County Superintendent of Schools office and post a delay advisory on the Internet. Media will monitor the internet posting and report via TV and radio stations.
If the district delays, it will be for 2 hours. (Busses will run 2 hours late from the regularly scheduled pick up time).
For information regarding Elk Hills School delay:
Check the fog delay alert line at https://alertline.kern.org/
Check the EHSD App/Live Feed/Facebook
Listen to the radio station
Watch the early morning news program on TV
Please do not call the school, radio or TV stations, or the sheriff's station. Finally, if you feel it is unsafe to send your student to school when the bus runs during the foggy weather, feel free to keep him/her home until you feel you can safely transport them to school.

Staff Spotlight: Miss Savannah
Hello, I am Miss Savannah, an Instructional Aide at Elk Hills School. I started out at Elk Hills as an AmeriCorps mentor and was recruited by the Elk Hills community to be an extra support for Academics and it has been a journey since and I am going on my 4th year strong! Even though the commute from Bakersfield to Tupman can be lengthy sometimes, it is worth being able to be a part of such a close, family-oriented community along with colleagues who have your best interest.
When I am not at work, you can find me hanging out with my family at a carshow, catching a music concert with my siblings, traveling, or getting lost in nature!
Fun Fact about me: I used to live in San Diego, Japan, Minnesota and Humboldt.
One goal I have for this school year is to help our kiddos gain more confidence and believe in themselves in all that they do!
